Gabs plays at a Roman Catholic Service of Confirmation

Gabs will be playing the Collins two-manual organ at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, situated in the heart of Henley-on-Thames, for a special Service of Confirmation celebrating one of the most significant sacraments in the Catholic Church.

The service will welcome fourteen candidates as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, affirming and strengthening their faith through the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The liturgy will be led by the Rt Rev. Bishop Richard Walker and attended by candidates, their families, parishioners, and visitors from the wider community.

Music will play an important role throughout the celebration. The congregation will join in singing Marty Haugen’s Mass of Creation, one of the most widely performed contemporary Catholic Mass settings, alongside a selection of well-loved hymns chosen to enhance the solemnity and joy of the occasion.

In keeping with the character of the church’s neoclassical Collins organ, the service will also feature organ voluntaries drawn from the Baroque repertoire. These works will showcase the instrument’s distinctive tonal qualities while providing reflective and uplifting music before, during, and after the liturgy.
